"As a child I aspired to be an attorney or a judge but this would involve creating student loan debts, and being raised by my grandparents Bernard and Thelma Carroll, I knew my options were limited. Creating debt wasn’t an option so that left joining the military, and so I did. My journey began with JROTC in high school which led to my enlistment into the U.S. Army's Delayed Entry Program. My plan wasn't God's plan because I became pregnant a couple of weeks prior to graduating from high school. I graduated high school and married Reverend Marcus Caldwell. We had two sons, Brandon and Bradley Caldwell, before I officially joined the U.S. Army in April 1993.
I have honorably served this country for over 30 years serving on active duty and in the Reserves. My most recent assignments were in the position of First Sergeant in a Military Intelligence Battalion and currently First Sergeant in an Engineering Brigade. My first marriage ended and I went on to marry Roderick Carney and we welcomed a third son, Roderick Jamari Carney, into our family. In each of my relationships, I experienced some really great times and also some really hard life lessons, but my faith made me stronger than the circumstances I faced.
My passion for serving the people doesn't end there as I became a law enforcement officer immediately following my active duty service in 1995, and have served local communities for over 25 years with law enforcement agencies in Athens-Clarke County and Milledgeville, GA, and Dothan, Level Plains, Ozark, and Clayhatchee, Alabama. I am currently employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs as a federal law enforcement officer serving Veterans as a Police Sergeant .
In addition to these careers, I practiced Real Estate as a licensed Realtor for 11 years helping families find the homes of their dreams. This career pushed me to remain being my own boss, so I launched my online retail business, RaeCy's Variations. Although I am no longer married and my children are adults with families and careers of their own, I cherish all the lessons I learned along the way as a wife and mother raising African American sons.
I believe in equal justice for all people and have served the people as the former Women In NAACP (WIN) Chairperson for the NAACP Dothan branch. I work closely with organizations that continue the fight towards equality in all areas of life. As I move into the next chapter of my life, i.e. retired life, I will continue pursuing justice for all in my service to others. No matter where we start, or how we end, the lessons we learn along the way should be shared with others that way we all benefit from them." ~ RaeMonica
